Our Story

The Student Dinner Entertainment Company, originated in 1994, and has been entertaining student groups since as the Student Dinner Theater. As our company grew so did our events and we eventually outgrew our name. We went from solely theatrical productions to interactive & participatory events of all kinds. Now we entertain student groups with Game Shows, Scavenger Hunts, Glow in the Dark Dance Parties, Improv Nights, Comedy Hypnosis & More! We also have entertainment specifically for Performing Groups.

We entertain students at their Festival Awards Nights, host Boston Harbor Dinner Dance Cruises and After Prom Parties! New for 2009 will be Go Green events & Student Team Building Events. We’re excited to be offering Leadership, Anti Bullying Programs & More! This will be part of our Edu-tainment side of the company.

All of our events are performed by a team of professional adult actors/facilitators or DJ/Hosts. Events are written and created with the student population in mind. The majority of our events are suitable for grades 5 thru 12. Our events are written and created knowing we have to keep students attention for 2-3 hours, keep them moving & engaged. We now consider ourselves to be experts in this!

How We Work

In each of our cities we work with 3-7 hotel properties, venues or banquet facilities.

  1. Once you know that your group definitely wants to hire the Student Dinner Entertainment Company please contact us via phone or email. We ask that you don’t confirm a booking in the proposal stage.
  2. We will ask where your group is staying and book a facility either where your group is staying or as close as we can come. Our office will make all arrangements with the facility regarding banquet room, space, menu, payment etc…
  3. A contract will be drawn up and sent to you via fax. The contract will state where the event will be held.
  4. Please sign and submit back to us as soon as possible to confirm the event and location. If you do not know your event selection at that time we ask for you to have a 1st and 2nd choice so that when you call back we know we’ll have at least one of the options available.

The Producer

The Student Dinner Entertainment Company was founded by Wendy Goldstein in 1994. Wendy is a graduate of Ithaca College and went directly into the social work field. After several years she made a career change (and added a husband) and wound up working at the Mystery Café in Boston, MA. The Mystery Café was (and still is) America’s Original murder mystery dinner theater offering the public dinner & a mystery show. Student Groups would come to the Mystery Café, love the experience, but found it to be a little too racy for their student groups. So, Wendy had the idea to start up a dinner theater just for student groups. The Student Dinner Theater started in Boston, MA in 1994, added Williamsburg and Virginia Beach locations shortly after, Washington, DC followed and then so on it went.

At the same time, Mystery Café was running the Haunted Dinner Theater in Salem, MA. This was ideal as Salem is known to be the Halloween Capital of the World!  But, Williamsburg, VA is known to be Ghost Capital of the World so with that knowledge it made it perfect to bring the Haunted Dinner Theater down to Williamsburg!  Wendy chose Captain George’s Restaurant and set out to entertain tourists visiting Williamsburg in Summer & Fall. The Haunted Dinner Theater has entertained sold out audiences 5 nights a week since 1998 in Williamsburg.

Wendy prides herself on having a woman owned business. She currently resides in Massachusetts with her husband David, and her 3 children.

"Just wanted to take a minute and tell you that the kids had a fantastic time (at the Glow in the Dark Dance Party) ! The DJ you provided was excellent. The kids danced the entire time and were giving me "thumbs up" all night! This is important because they were concerned that I had hired some lame DJ! In addition, my students invited the kids from another school to join them. Those kids told their director that this was the most fun they have ever had on a trip! Because of you, I now have increased creditability with my students! Thank you again."

"The school LOVED the game show! Your MC/DJ is fantastic with the kids and we really appreciated that he was dressed for the occasion. Was he happy with the evening? All of the chaperones loved the evening and found it to be a great idea to use questions related directly to the school. Thank you for the professionnalism. We will definitely remember it! Once again, thanks so much!"

"Wendy, we did the Glow in the Dark Dance Party. I think that things went very well. There were a lot of compliments on the dinner and the D.J. . Most people said that the chicken was delicious. The meal was very good. The food staff were very nice and helpful. The students and the chaperones liked the glow in the dark items. You should have seen the creativity that they used to create new items from what was given. The dancing was the best. Adults and students seemed to enjoy themselves. One mother said that her son is always so busy and seldom has time to "loosen up" and he danced the entire time. Many people commented on the D.J. They really liked him. I am sorry that this was done at the last moment, but it was a hit on the trip. I hope that we can use the Student Dinner Entertainment in the future. "
